On December 15, Christie'S auction house completed the auction of the NFT collection "The Birth of Wikipedia", during which it sold the first page of the largest online encyclopedia.

Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, created it on January 15, 2001. The recording consists of a single phrase "Hello, World!" ("Hello, world!"). The token was sold for $750,000.

Wales' personal iMac, on which he made that very recording, also went under the hammer. The computer was sold for $187,500.

The buyer of both lots are not disclosed.

Recall that Wales put up for sale the first version of the Internet encyclopedia at Christie's auction in the form of an NFT in early December.

After the sale, the Wikipedia homepage will be posted on the Internet. Five minutes after editing, it will return to its original state. The new owner will be able to block access to the page or prohibit its editing.
